Herbal Healing, Our 1st Natural Medicine

Herbal Healing Roots

Although I was raised as an herbalist, I still felt it necessary to include a qualified and experienced herbalist as a valuable way to safely explore the benefits of herbal healing remedies in relation to my current needs.

Even though herbal remedies are natural products, some herbs can have negative contraindications with certain medical conditions. My herbalist conducted a health assessment and recommended the type of herbs that are safe for me to use. This enhanced my confidence and I knew I could receive the support If and when I needed it.

My Trip To Jamaica – Re-align With My Inner Herbalist

Before embarking upon this herbal healing journey, it was necessary to re-align with my roots and its ancient wisdom. My trip to Jamaica, reawakened the herbal healer within.

I was able to go on many herbal walks that reacquainted me with the depth of healing knowledge that I felt I could only gain from restoring my connection with my roots and the Indigenous herbal keepers.

All of the herbs that I have decided to use from my visit to Jamaica are highlighted in this article. This day 19 on my healing journey.

My Detoxification Kit

  • Blood Cleanse Tea
  • Colon Cleanse Tea
  • Purple Sea Moss
  • Castor Oil

Blood Cleanse Tea

Our blood performs a range of functions and responsibilities such as:

  • The transport of nutrients around the body
  • Transports oxygen to the cells throughout the body
  • Removal of waste

When excess toxins accumulate within the body, the optimal functioning of our body systems become impeded. It makes complete sense then to cleanse the blood while undergoing a detoxification process.

The herbs that I am using in my blood cleanse tea are:

  • Cerasse
  • King Of The Forest
  • Fennel
  • Sarsaparilla
  • Ginger
  • Bissy
  • Bitterwood
  • Cloves
  • Sea Moss

Potential Benefits:

  • Improves bone health
  • Enhances circulation
  • Assists in maintaining a healthy clean blood system
  • Aids Kidney filtration
  • Helps restore liver function
  • Reduces inflammation

Colon Cleanse Tea

“Healthy Colon, Healthy Me” Speaking from experience. When my colon is free and bowel movements are easy, I feel light and energised. When I feel sluggish, experience brain-fog and my joints and muscle aches, I know I need a cleanse.

Releasing Habits

When seeking to release unhealthy habits, it is best to do this holistically. Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual cleansing is the best approach that can create lasting changes.

What is so fascinating about gut health is that most of the cravings that occur are as a result of unhealed aspects of self. The part of us that needed to feel safe and secure. To feel loved and appreciated, to be praised and honour in our youthful days. To know that all feelings states are acceptable and that we are enough, just the way we are.

If this is deficient in some way, we may seek other ways of substituting what we had needed to experience from the “other” by indulging excessively in things that give us external pleasure. In my case, which was food.

One way of transforming these cravings and addictive behaviours is through cleansing the colon and restoring a healthy gut microbiome.

The herbs that I am using in my colon cleanse tea are:

  • Beetroot
  • Parsley
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Papaya
  • Celery
  • Ginger

Potential Benefits:

  • Cleanse digestive tract
  • Support colon lymphatics, the liver and the kidneys
  • General body detoxification
  • Helps to breakdown and remove waste, toxins and parasites

(I will speak about the other herbs and natural healing products in another blog post, as I progress with this healing journey.)

Activating The Herbal Teas

Before I drink my herbal healing teas there are three things that I do.

  • First, I align with my intention, whilst holding the tea
  • I deeply smell the aroma to activate my heart and brain
  • I sing or speak healing love into the tea

Whilst I drink the tea, I enter into a space of meditation where I continually scan my body for sensations, emotional feeling states and insights. Then I write what I have become aware of in my journal for further study.

The teas are bitter by nature and it takes time for me to drink it because the taste is so intense. I keep my focus on why I am doing this to encourage myself to drink it all up.
